Draupathiyin Mutham ❤️

The very 1st time I experienced the song, I saw the lyric video opening with the scene brief text from the movie & rain noises. That kind of teleported me to the land of Karnan – Puliyankulam.

The swirl of flute in the prelude pulls us in the song with the rustic texture of Meenakshi Elayaraja’s voice & subtle pianica adds more beauty to it. HANDS DOWN, This is the best song sung by Dhanush (according to me). This song is basically, Karnan in love. Karnan in love with Draupathai. Yugabharathi carefully knots all the beautiful assets around Karnan, Puliankulam to sing out Karnan’s love for Draupathai. The guitar strums, flutes, rhythms, cocolin and pianica that travels throughout the song is such a charm! This is one of those songs, which I wanna rip off from my play-head and hug it.

I just love the word, செந்தணல் – Meaning செந்தீ. Not very often we get to hear this word in a Tamil song. The lines translate to

In my red-hot inferno heart
The mere thought of you is a calming drizzle
I’m just a shadow in this village
You are my truth, woman
Give me a kiss, my dear
And I’ll give you all of me!

The special mention is the 2nd interlude, where Meenakshi comes back & instills a strong political reference inbetween a love song…

As a voice of Puliyankulam, Meenakshi urges Karnan to win for the people and land of Puliyankulam. That is what eventually happens in the film.

Karnan is the 2nd outing for Santhosh Narayanan & Mari Selvaraj and It’s the 3rd outing of Santhosh & Dhanush after Kodi & VadaChennai. The music and scape of Karnan is contrast from Santhosh’s previous release Parris Jayaraj, which had 5 phenomenal gaana numbers. With Kandaa Vara Sollunga & Yen Aalu Manjanathi my hype for the album sky-rocketed. But, the peace “Thattaan Thattaan…” offered me, I just can’t explain it in words.

Cya soon…
